About Us
A Christ-centred Church with a People caring ministry
Our Vision
We envision a Church renewed by. theHoly Spirit and empowered to live out God's purpose. Strengthened to disciple believers, serve our community, and advance God's Kingdom with faith, love, and impact.
Our Mission
Our mission is to nurture a Spirit-renewed church by fostering personal and corporate spiritual growth, equipping believers to discover and walk in their God-given purpose, and empowering every member to serve, love and impact their community and the world for Christ.
Our History
Founded in 1973, the Church of God began as a small prayer and Bible study in the home of Brother and Sister B. Somerville. What started with just four faithful believers quickly grew into an officially established congregation, meeting in local schools as God continued to add to the church and expand its ministry.
In 1989, the congregation purchased its first permanent home at 7050 Bramalea Road, where it continued to experience significant spiritual and numerical growth. As the ministry expanded, additional property was acquired, allowing for the construction of a larger sanctuary and facilities to support children, youth, families, and community outreach.
Today, the Church of God remains a vibrant, Christ-centered congregation committed to biblical teaching, passionate worship, prayer, and serving the community. We continue to fulfill our mission of advancing God’s Kingdom while living out our vision of “Reclaiming what we have lost and Rebuilding what has been broken.”

Everyone at Church of God is encouraged to internalize our mission, vision and core values, so that they will become an integral part of daily living for Christ. Ministry action plans have been developed for each objective, to help our people achieve the mission and vision for the future.
Portfolios and responsibilities have been established among the various Boards/Committees and the ministry staff, to work with the congregation so that our ministry objectives can be achieved.
BASIC PREMISE
- The Bible is the official textbook of the Church of God and all its educational agencies
- Christ is the center of every aspect of the Church’s ministries: All our activities must be conducted to the uplifting of the name of Christ.
- People are the number one concern of our Church. We are a diverse people (from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds). Still, we are united by one purpose: to reach the unchurched people of our community with the life-changing message of Christ, showing respect for the individual and a commitment to excellence in Service.
PRINCIPLES FOR ACTION
- Christ-Centered: It is felt that a Christ-Centered Church is the creative handiwork of the Divine Craftsman; the Master Builder – Jesus Christ. “Without Me, ye can do nothing” (John 15: 5) The object of our teaching is to see people conforming to the image of Christ and then; having people caring for people.”
- Bible-Based: It is impossible to be a truly Christ-Centered Church without being Bible-Based. We believe that “Jesus is the Word.”
As a Church, we consider the Word of God to be profitable for:
- Doctrine: Teaching Christian principles.
- Reproof: Making one aware of violations of life principles.
- Correction: Taking corrective measures.
- Instruction: Exhortation and encouragement for stable Christian practices. (2 Timothy 3: 16-17).
- Prayer-Focused: Habakkuk 2:1-4; Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Praying in the Spirit connects us with God’s supernatural power to effect change in our world.God is our mighty fortress. He is always ready to help in times of trouble. The Lord, the All- Powerful one is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46:1-11). We know that God is in control. He constantly watches over us. He cares for and protects us in all our ways. We know also that God hears our prayers and we are sure that He answers. We therefore, commit our selves to consistent prayer. - Spirit-guided: The Church believes that dependence on the Holy Spirit for direction in all things, gives a spiritual perspective that can be found in no other way. People demonstrating genuine care for people, comes only through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
- Love-Motivated: Love is the greatest motivator that we have towards God and His people. Our care and respect for the individual is motivated by our love for God. We believe that the love of God that draws men to Himself and transforms them into His likeness is to be demonstrated in our daily actions and lifestyle.
- Individual-Oriented: At Church of God, we emphasize the individual and his or her needs. These needs are categorized into a fourfold ministry:
- Education: In order for the individual to uphold Christ-Centered practices, he or she must be equipped with the Word. Individuals are encouraged to set aside time to “search the Scriptures”. All our members are urged to be at the Wednesday evening Bible Studies and at Sunday school.
- Fellowship: Every individual is a “VIP” and has a basic need for fellowship; to love and to be loved. Our ministries and programs are geared to the fulfillment of this need.
- Worship: Mankind was created with a genuine desire to worship; and unless this desire is properly channeled, it will be misdirected. The Church of God focuses on the individual, in worship of the True and Living God – “Jehovah.”
- Evangelism: The aim is to win the lost at any cost and making them “disciples of men” – to serve others in every aspect of their lives: socially, emotionally and spiritually. We serve with the understanding that “every member is a minister.”
OUR GOAL HAS BEEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE
- To have well-trained staff for every department.
- To have a program of ministry geared to a balanced spiritual life of each member.
- To locate and make available good spiritual and related materials for every department.
- To invest in the development of our young people; sensitizing them to the schemes and exploits of the devil.
- To provide frequent and in-depth study of the Word.
- To empower the individual to share his or her faith in God; verbally and with confidence each time the opportunity is given.
- To maintain an effective outreach and visitation program; to reach the sick and shut-ins; at home, in prison, in the hospitals, in nursing homes; as well as those in the community at large with chronic needs.
- To develop an effective prayer ministry that seeks to involve the whole Congregation.
